Rachel Watters

I am a born-and-raised Fredericton artist who has a passion for creativity and is an advocate for disability rights and representation. From 2007 to 2015, I ran my own photography company, highlighting the beauty that New Brunswick had to offer.

I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts from NSCAD University (2004), a Diploma in Communication Design from the NB College of Craft and Design (NBCCD) and a Master’s in Interdisciplinary Studies from University of New Brunswick (2014). I'm currently enrolled in a PhD program at UNB, where I'm researching the impact disability representations have on the lived experiences of those with disabilities.

I specialize in macro photography, landscapes/flora, and artwork documentation. I also have a background in colour theory and composition.

Carol Randall

As a child growing up in the rural community of Harvey Station, I always had a camera in my hands taking pictures of either our dogs (German Shepherds) or of members of our equine family (ponies and Standardbreds). Once I entered the workforce in the early 1960s I took photography courses at the local YMCA and later from Joe Stone’s Studio.

Being a member of both the Montreal Camera Club and Photo Fredericton gave me a better appreciation of well composed photos. After several decades working as a statistician within the sporting world, an old hobby became my new passion in 1994 with the adoption of my ‘soul dog’, Clancy, a Rottweiler.  Photographing different breeds of dogs and later draft horses have all presented me with great enjoyment as well as a variety of physical challenges.

At the age of eight I contracted Polio which affected all four of my limbs in one way or another.  Unable now to handle the weight of a SLR camera with multiple lenses, a simple ‘point and shoot’ has mainly been my camera of choice. You might say the technical aspect of my photography has not been my strong point – thank heavens for photo enhancement software. Today I can be spotted about Fredericton on my red electric mobility scooter participating in various trade shows or capturing shots for my business “Fredericton Keepsakes,” where I sell photo-based memorabilia at different locations in Fredericton.

I am delighted to have this opportunity to pass on some of my photographic ‘tips & tricks’ to students of Fredericton’s initial Camp YouthQuake.

Robyn Shortt

I have been living with and photographing animals ever since I was a child.  I studied wildlife biology and art in school, and have worked constantly on improving my photography throughout my adult life.   When my family and I moved to Fredericton, It finally occurred to me to bring together my two passions to start Candid Critters.  I appreciate the importance of animals in people’s lives as companions and family members, and I love the challenge of capturing the personality of each pet, whether they be cat or dog, horse or hamster, bird or reptile.  The bond between us and our animal companions may be invisible, but a good photograph can capture it nonetheless.
